About Us

Long before the establishment of NTU Institutional Research (IR) Office, the administrative and academic units of NTU have been performing relevant work for many years to improve the performance of institutional management. In response to the changes of higher education environment and information technology, NTU has been adjusting organizational structures, amending regulations, and digitalizing many administrative and teaching affairs. The results include ePortfolio, tPortfolio, CEIBA and an online platform for teaching, NTU COOL. NTU focuses on students’ learning performance and adopts a more flexible and specialized organizational structure for the management of institutional affairs. The goal of all these efforts is to turn NTU into one of the world’s top universities. In addition to Computer and Information Networking Center, which is responsible for the overall management of computer and information affairs, the Office of Academic Affairs also established the Division of Information in 1994 to efficiently aggregate the data of academic affairs. The Center for Teaching and Learning Development and the Statistics Education Center are also established later in 2006 and 2007. These units are set up for the purpose of digitalizing teaching, administration and services, as well as analyzing learning performance, laying a solid foundation for the IR affairs of NTU.

To build an IR database with comprehensive aggregated information for decision-making, the administrative team agreed at a meeting on July 7th, 2015 to officially establish the (functional) first-level unit, “Institutional Research Office.” The Vice President of Academic Affairs holds a concurrent post as the CEO of the office. However, the IR-related affairs are rather extensive and complicated, often requiring the involvement of more than one administrative unit. As a result, there is a need for a flexible first-level unit capable of cross-office planning, communicating, cooperating, and forming a research group according to the decisions made on institutional affairs. Therefore, we adjusted the organizational structure again in 2016 and approved the Directions for Establishing Offices on December 12th of the same year. The Institutional Research Office was set under the Committee of Institutional Development and Planning. The Secretary-General holds a concurrent post as the CEO of the office, in order to achieve a better cross-office coordination and plan more comprehensively for the institutional development.
